Abstract

The paper aims to reflect on the legitimacy of the actor-non-actor, of the actor Freaks on the contemporary theater scene. It reflects on the theme of human and artistic dignity, and on the reticence of the theatrical world to accept quality works with non-compliant actors, denying to the audience the access to performance theatrically dignified and to the theater to participate more in the co-construction of human dignity and ethical culture. The theme of the quality and artistic dignity of the contemporary theater/show is dealt with, hypothesizing that it has a meaning with the truths of the people and the inauthenticity of the actor, as a character other than oneself, can weaken the strength and the cultural and ethical thrust of the theater against the society. The relationship between fiction and truth is faced to question which theater is necessary in this techno-liquid and narcissistic society. In this regard, it is identified in the work with the Freaks, as bearers of an identity that can only be profoundly real, and absolutely far from a narcissistic drift, a new and rich frontier of theatrical and human research.
