Abstract

Two juxtaposed mythologemes seem to determine the ultimate source of laughter: the Elusinian myth of the rape of Kore and the Japanese myth of the Celestial Cave. From a study already started by Roberto Tessari (1983) it was possible to bring out new approaches to the research field. Focusing on the sense of the 'divine laughter’ as a primary one, related to Uzume’s and Baubo-Hecate’s 'obscene dance’ where the birth of the comic genre could be traced for both hemispheres, as well as relevance of the 'liminal relationships they represent.
