Abstract

The paradigm shift in the field of contemporary performance includes the change that the process of creation or production has undergone by acquiring a practical value with the explicit need for a theoretical redefinition caused by the erosion of the author's creative dominance and the gradual emergence of an anti-hierarchical and mostly collaborative method of working. This article attempts to frame this change by proposing the dramaturgical lens as a generative instance of the new ways of understanding creativity and practical engagement in it. Through an interdisciplinary approach involving relational and processual thinking, it addresses dramaturgy as a shared, politicised and catalytic practice, and the new figure of the dramaturg as a facilitator and mobiliser of the thought process (and thus creation) of others. In this regard, it offers several critical concepts through which it reconstructs the ways of acting dramaturgically in the midst of the creative process, such as responsiveness, conversation and focalization. Ultimately, the study problematises the relationship between artistic engagement and the contemporary productive and socio-economic context.
