Abstract

The contribution intends to focus on the UNESCO recognition, in 2001, of the Opera dei Pupi, and on its inclusion, in 2008, in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, following Italy's ratification of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Reference will be made to the theatrical activity of the 'Figli d'Arte Cuticchio' company and association, directed by Mimmo Cuticchio. In retracing, therefore, the assumptions and implications of these important events, we will make use both of the reflections that emerged during the dialogue with Maestro Cuticchio himself and of an interview that I made, for this contribution, with Elisa Puleo, Mimmo Cuticchio's wife and company administrator. Sources from the company's archive will also be used.
