Le vie della mimesis tra teatro e musica in Jean-Jacques Rousseau: storia di un apparente paradosso

Teatro di prosa e teatro lirico ricevono nelle opera di Rousseau un trattamento diametralmente opposto. Per quanto il citoyen de Génève identifichi nell’interesse e nell’imitazione due princìpi comuni a teatro ed opera, la natura della mimesis teatrale e di quella musicale sembra dividere le due forme d’arte. L’articolo, poggiandosi sul commento di numerosi passi dalle opere di Rousseau, mette in luce come alcune considerazioni sul ruolo di pietà e immaginazione nello sviluppo della storia umana costituiscano il sottofondo dal quale emerge l’analisi dell’imitazione dell’autore. Infine viene posto in rilievo il rapporto costitutivo tra musica e linguaggio, la cui comprensione è cruciale per cogliere il motivo della differenza nell’effetto morale di musica e teatro.
